The Thunder Bay Historical Museum Society was created in 1908 to preserve and interpret the history of Northwestern Ontario through lectures, publications, monuments and plaques, and the preservation of documents. It opened a museum in the basement of the Brodie Street Library in 1942 and today runs the Thunder Bay Museum in a renovated former police station and courthouse, whose main exhibit gallery opened in 1997. The museum offers exhibits, children’s and school programs, free public lectures, historical walking tours and archival photos.
