The V Foundation for Cancer Research, based in Cary, North Carolina, was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, the basketball coach and ESPN commentator. It funds research on all types of cancer, awarding grants to scientists at National Cancer Institute-designated cancer centers and other institutions in the United States and Canada.
