Trooper Island, Inc. runs the Trooper Island Kids Camp, created by the Kentucky State Police as a long-range public service program for Kentucky’s youth, where children and troopers spend a week together at camp. The idea was led by former State Police Director Colonel James E. Bassett, and the camp sits on an island leased from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in a quiet corner of Dale Hollow Lake. All construction and camping costs are paid from tax-deductible contributions, including the camp’s yearly car raffle held at the Kentucky State Fair.
