The ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot is one of Austin, Texas’s best-loved Thanksgiving traditions, run on Thanksgiving Day outside the Long Center for the Performing Arts. It began in 1991 with a handful of volunteers and 600 participants and has grown into the largest 5-mile run in Texas, with more than 700 volunteers and over 20,000 participants, plus a one-mile walk and a kids’ race. All proceeds go to Caritas of Austin, a nonprofit working to prevent and end homelessness, and the event’s raffle, with 100 percent of ticket revenue going to Caritas, has helped the Trot raise more than $5.4 million.
