Special Olympics Missouri, based in Jefferson City, is part of the world’s largest sports organization, which transforms lives through the joy of sport for nearly 5 million athletes in more than 170 countries, more than 10,000 of them in Missouri. It provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing chances to develop physical fitness, show courage and experience joy, and it promotes better fitness, nutrition and healthier lifestyles for athletes, families, coaches and volunteers.
