Sacred Heart Parish in Erie, Pennsylvania, began in 1890 when a group of men of German descent asked Bishop Mullen for a new congregation in southwest Erie. The Rev. Francis J. Bender became founding pastor in 1894 and served there his entire priesthood. Today the parish shares a website and staff with St. Joseph and the St. Paul mission church.
