The National Humane Society, a nonprofit incorporated in Delaware and based in Newark, works to protect animals from suffering and improve their lives through compassionate action, education, advocacy and policy change. It supports shelters and humane societies across the country, helps fund spay and neuter programs and veterinary care for pets whose owners cannot afford it, and encourages adoption to address the overpopulation of dogs and cats. Its national car sweepstakes, with prizes ranging from Porsches and Corvettes to cash, help fund this work.
