The National Automobile Museum (The Harrah Collection) in Reno, Nevada, preserves and celebrates the automobile, past, present and future, and is recognized as one of the 10 best automobile museums in the U.S. It grew out of the collection of gaming pioneer Bill Harrah, which reached about 1,400 vehicles. After his death in 1978, public outcry over plans to sell the collection led Holiday Inns to donate 175 cars and the research library to the future nonprofit museum, which opened in 1989.
