Lemons of Love, in Des Plaines, Illinois, was created in 2014 when Jill Swanson was diagnosed with colon cancer and began her own ‘making lemonade’ project of sharing gifts with other patients. The nonprofit sends chemo care packages filled with items that ease treatment side effects. It serves hospitals and cancer centers in Illinois and Wisconsin, and it ships packages anywhere in the world.
