The International Good Samaritans Safe Ride Program in South Lake Tahoe, California, began more than 40 years ago when a group of friends at Lake Tahoe decided there had to be a better way home from a night out than driving drunk. The 501(c)(3) charity sends free teams of two sober drivers, one to drive the intoxicated person and their friends home in their own car and one to follow, in response to calls from drinkers, friends or bartenders. To keep the rides free, it holds an annual classic car, truck, motorcycle and vintage camper show with a raffle giveaway of a restored vehicle, now held at Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe.
