Grand Lake Health System in St. Marys, Ohio, is built around Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, which community leaders and the local American Legion chapter worked to establish after World War II. The hospital opened on May 5, 1953, with 50 beds and 30 staff as a memorial to area residents who gave their lives in the war, and today the system has more than 800 medical professionals and 150 physicians. Its car raffle is part of the annual Grand Lake Hospice Gala, and the JTD Hospital Foundation, which has raised funds for the hospital since 1990, supports its care and awards healthcare scholarships.
