The California Automobile Museum in Sacramento, California, preserves, exhibits and teaches the story of the automobile and its influence on our lives. It opened on May 1, 1987 as the Towe Ford Museum, showing Edward Towe’s collection of Fords; after that collection was auctioned in 1997, the renamed Towe Auto Museum began showing vehicles of all makes and models, and in 2009 it became the California Automobile Museum. About half of the vehicles on display are owned by the museum and the rest are on loan from private exhibitors, so the exhibit is always changing.
