Outside Initiatives,Brownsville, Oregon: Since 2001 this 501(c)(3) all volunteer non-profit has provided positive youth development programs. Rescued Miniature Horses help work in innovative ways to teach valuable social and academic skills to local youth. Our day camps and programs serve over 100 kids and families each year. We have successfully partnered with many other local youth organizations, such as the Cub Scouts, Schools and Churches for special academic events. We provide career paths for those who stay in the program. We also provide leadership development for troubled or at risk families. Over the last few years, several Foster kids, have asked us to start a program for our horses to teach their parents to be better leaders. They see clearly how it takes the same skill set to lead horses as it does to lead people, except that horses do not judge and they are consistent in their efforts and their accountability. We are developing a family reunification program to help parents regain leadership of their families and for foster children to return as children in these families, not as the adults they had to be.
