Raffle Benefits
Brevard Music Center is an independent, non-profit educational institution chartered in the state of North Carolina, and is governed by a self-perpetuating board of trustees. Founded in 1936, it incorporated as a 501(c) 3 organization in 1947. Although BMC’s annual budget exceeds $3 million, its sound financial management has kept the institution “in the black” and without debt since 1978.
In addition to the seasonal staff, BMC has a year-round staff of 19. During the educational season, staff increases to include approximately 60 faculty members and 50 additional support staff.
As an independent institution, BMC relies on its own management practices and the support of the private sector. Its sole support from the public sector is an annual Statewide Arts Resource grant, which constitutes less than 6 percent of its budget. The rest is earned through performance ticket sales or is received in donations.
In order to make its unique educational program accessible to as many talented young people as possible, the Music Center’s comprehensive fees are competitive for comparable programs in the country. A major scholarship program for more than 90 percent of its students is solicited annually from individuals, corporations and foundations.
