SUNBURY CELEBRATION, Sunbury, Pennsylvania, was formed approximately 11 years ago to gather families together and provide low cost, affordable, and free activities and events for families to enjoy. There are many free activities for kids. Sunbury Celebration typically starts on a Thursday and runs through Sunday morning, and includes a large fireworks display on Saturday night. On Thursday, Family Fun Night at the Oppenheimer Pleasure Grounds, located on North Second Street, starts things off. There are children’s activities, music, food and snacks provided, all free of charge. On Friday there is free swimming all day at the Sunbury Youth & Community Center swimming pool, with an old fashioned “Splash Hop” on Friday evening. On Saturday there is once again, free swimming at SY&CC, baseball tournaments throughout the day, crafts, food, pony rides, petting zoo, games for the kids and free ice cream. On Saturday night there is a large fireworks display and on Sunday morning the City hosts a “Soap Box Derby” on Market Street Hill to close out the weekend activities. Sunbury Celebration has become one of the City’s most enjoyable and well attended activities since its inception.
