Rochester Lions Club members volunteer their time to perform a variety of community service activities. See How We Serve for a complete list. At the same time, our Club provides good fellowship and club social life for its members. We invite men and women of all ages to join the Rochester Lions Club. Come join us for dinner the first and third Mondays of the month to get to know us better. Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization with 1.35 million members in 46,028 clubs in 192 countries and geographical areas. Lions are men and women who volunteer their time to humanitarian causes. Founded in 1917, the association’s motto is “We Serve.” Service To Others – Lions clubs are recognized for their service to the blind and visually impaired. This service began when Helen Keller challenged Lions to become “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness” during the 1925 Lions Clubs International Convention. Leader Dog Summer Experience – The Leader Dog Summer Experience is for boys and girls ages 16 and 17 who are legally blind. The program is completely free including airfare — and everyone receives a free Kapten PLUS audible pedestrian GPS device to keep. For more information and to start the application process, go to www.leaderdog.org/programs/youth or call the Leader Dog Client Services department at 888-777-5332.
