The Foundation for Autism Care, Education & Services (FACES) is a non-profit 501c3 foundation founded by Larry and Pat Wallace. It is the mission of FACES to raise funds to directly support and promote education, service and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for families faced with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The funding for the foundation comes from both public and private party donations, as well as fundraisers involving private individuals and organizations. ABA is a treatment approach that focuses on increasing appropriate behaviors and celebrating successes and minimizing attention and energy wasted in inappropriate behavior.
There is no therapeutic intervention that has been more studied or validated than Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy. ABA is a data-driven system of teaching that emphasizes breaking down skills into their component parts and teaching them using various prompting and positive reinforcement. A skill is considered mastered only after the data verifies that conclusion. By building related skills in a coordinated fashion, ABA has been shown to have the physical effect of “re-wiring” brain circuitry in individuals with autism. In other words, therapy done the right way actually teaches children “how to learn.”
