Benefits Compassion House
Draws 12/06/09
Raffle Benefits Compassion House is a non-profit organization which offers transitional housing and other aid to families in need. We have been providing essential support to families in our community since 1998. The assistance includes life skills training, establishing links with other ministries and social service agencies, providing for transportation needs, and financial counseling. Our goal is to share God’s love with each family while working with them to break the cycle of dependency on public assistance or to avoid the need for such assistance.
Compassion House began in 1998 through the vision of Pastor Mark Miller and the support of his church, Mountain Creek Christian Fellowship. In response to the neediness of families in the Issaquah area struggling under financial burdens and traumatic personal circumstances, Compassion House was born. Providing transitional housing as well as offering physical, emotional, and spiritual support, Compassion House volunteers seek to come alongside these families in distress.
One unique aspect of Compassion House is its cooperation with the City of Issaquah. The City identified the shortage of low income housing as a number one immediate challenge, and Compassion House’s goal of helping people recover from the need for public aid lessens this burden of the City’s. So the City has leased or sold several homes to Compassion House for nominal fees.
The first house Compassion House leased from the city was a badly neglected house on Rainier Boulevard. See the Project Rainier page to find out about the generous donations that made the remodeling of this house possible and the families that have found a resting place there.
Working relationships with the Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank, the local Kiwanis Clubs, and other service groups help to make the goals of Compassion House achievable. Compassion House is run by a Board of Directors comprised of both church members and local leaders.
