The Brevard Alzheimer’s Foundation, Melbourne, FL,:
Over 20 years ago, in 1993, the Brevard Alzheimer’s Foundation partnered with AJ Hiers, a prominent local car dealer, to create an annual car drawing/barbeque fundraising event.
In its early years, the car drawing was held at the Boniface Hiers car dealership and the winner had the opportunity to pick any new car of their choice from the dealer lot. A barbeque was held in conjunction with the drawing to both thank the supporters of the fundraiser and also add a festive touch to the occasion.
Several years later, in 1998, Mr. Hiers decided to give away a classic car, rather than a new car, to both gain more attention for the event and to boost ticket sales. That year, a 1967 Dodge Coronet RT 426 HEMI became the first in a long line of classic MOPAR collectible cars to be featured in the Brevard Alzheimer’s annual barbeque and car drawing. During its subsequent 20 year run, the Alzheimer’s barbeque/car drawing fundraiser has been privileged to feature some of the most collectible cars in the world, all found and provided to us by Mr. Hiers. These cars could easily sell for large amounts of money at any Barrett Jackson or other similar collector’s auto auctions, so we are grateful Mr. Hiers has found them just for us. “Being a supporter has been very rewarding for me. It has been a privilege to be associated with Brevard Alzheimer’s Foundation, its Board and staff. I see no reason to ever stop trying to be more successful than the year before” said Hiers. Brevard Alzheimer’s Foundation is likewise forever thankful and indebted to Mr. Hiers for being its major patron and supporter.
