Kentucky Opera was founded in 1952 by Moritz von Bomhard and designated the State Opera of Kentucky in 1982. Recently the Kentucky Opera has undergone an evolution. In January 2006, David Roth was announced as the new general director of Kentucky Opera, succeeding Ms. Sandler .  Roth had been with Fort Worth Opera since 2000 where he balanced the artistic and fiscal responsibilities as both Director of Production and Director of Finance. During his tenure with Kentucky Opera, Roth has continuously strived to push the artistic levels of the company with debut productions and artists.

Kentucky Opera is financed by ticket sales, corporate and individual sponsors, the Fund for the Arts, the Kentucky Arts Council, and local fundraisers such as the Viva Voce, Carnevale, and the annual Car Raffle.

From its humble beginnings in 1952, when the budget of $10,000 produced three operas, Kentucky Opera has grown to a respected regional company with an annual budget in excess of $2.4 million. With the addition of Kentucky Opera Studio Artists Program and other growing outreach programs, the company is well positioned to take its place as a leader in the region and the nation in the dynamic field of opera. 

Raffle Prize

The RS 60 Spyder’s interior features and equipment also pay homage to its famous ancestor: door entryguards made of stainless steel that proudly show off the model designation, a race-inspired gearshift lever and special surface texture in the center sections of the sports seats and the center door linings as well as on the steering wheel rim and handbrake lever.

Reflecting its model designation, the new Boxster RS 60 Spyder is limited to 1,960 units worldwide, which is prominently displayed on a silver-colored placard on the lid of the glove compartment. Less than 800 of the 1,960 units produced will make it to North American showrooms.

Raffle Car

The Porsche 996 is the company’s internal name for the version of the Porsche 911 model manufactured and sold between 1998 and 2005. At its debut, it featured the most significant changes to the Carrera modelsince its introduction in 1963. The most important among these is the fully water-cooled engine, replacing the previously air-cooled engines (which were considerably more reliable than the new water cooled models), used exclusively by the Carrera models. More stringent noise regulations and higher customer expectations for both refinement and a higher performance 4 valve per cylinder engine made the switch necessary. The 996 Carrera (not GT2, GT3 and Turbo models) engine is designed with what Porsche calls “integrated dry sump oiling”. This “integrated dry sump” engine does not have an oil scavenge pump in the crankcase to pump the engine oil to a separate holding tank outside the crankcase as a true dry sump design would have. The only scavenge pumps in the 996 engine are in the camshaft boxes and the oil is pumped from there to the bottom of the crankcase as it would be in any “wet sump” engine. Other changes include a sleeker body with a more steeply raked windshield and a re-designed interior.

A Friend Indeed is a non-profit company which assists its customers with a complete range of affordable, high-quality, home repair, maintenance, and building services. We invest 80% of all contributions into low to moderate income neighborhoods with an objective to make lives more livable by repairing, rebuilding, enhancing, or building homes and communities with construction assistance.

Established in 2003, A Friend Indeed has partnered with other relief teams through-out the country. In New Orleans, post hurricane Katrina, our organization helped revitalize and rebuild the seventh ward by reconstructing homes, churches, and community centers. We built a youth camp in Alaska, and here in Arizona we assisted in providing and constructing temporary shelter for homeless, single, pregnant, mothers who faced uncertainty towards child birth. These are just a few examples of the valuable work being accomplished through A Friend Indeed and its supporters.

Raffle Car

In a fund raising effort A Friend Indeed has decided to raffle off a 2010 Porsche GT3 (sponsored in part by PENSKE Porsche North Scottsdale). The 2010 Porsche GT3 has received rave reviews and the demand for this vehicle is very high. Only a handful of these vehicles will be imported to the United States and A Friend Indeed (with the help of PENSKE) has secured one of the few.

The 2010 911 GT3 is powered by a 3.8-liter (boxer) six-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine that develops maximum output of 435 bhp @ 7,660 rpm, up 20 bhp over its predecessor. The new GT3 accelerates from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds and reaching 100 mph in 8.3 seconds. Top speed is an aero-limited 193 mph.

The engine mounts can go from heavy dampers to keep things smooth in the cabin to solid with no flex, transmitting every ounce of power to the wheels. That power gets routed through a suspension designed with stiffer springs and anti-roll bars while ride comfort is unaffected. That suspension comes with threaded components that can be adjusted for ride height, track width and camber. It’s springs are stiffer than any Carrera’s, but it now comes with Porsche’s PASM electronically variable shocks. It will also come standard with 19-inch center-lock wheels.

For the first time the 911 GT3 comes with a particularly sporting variant of PSM Porsche Stability Management, offering the option to deactivate both Stability Control (SC) and Traction Control (TC) in separate steps.

The new GT3 offers even better grip and stability also at high speeds, specific modifications of the car’s aerodynamics increasing down-forces both front and rear to such an extent that the overall pressure pushing down the car is more than twice as great as on the former model. At the same time the new Aerodynamics Package gives the GT3 a brand-new look further accentuated by the new bi-xenon headlights, LED rear light clusters, as well as modified air intakes and outlets.

The GT3 holds an interesting place in the lineup because it is the fastest naturally-aspired car Porsche makes and some drivers prefer the GT3 over turbo models. This GT3 is quieter and with better ride control than previous models and again makes the 0 to 60 mph sprint in four seconds and has a top speed of 194 mph. This represents only 0.3 of a second slower to 60 mph and is one mile per hour faster than the current 911 Turbo. Some of Porsche’s professional drivers have felt that the marginal power loss was worth the predictability that was gained by having a non-turbo engine.

WorldCause Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing help to those in abject poverty with a special emphasis on easing the suffering of children, provides funding to select tax-exempt non-profit organizations. They have selected Camp Boggy Creek, which is Haywood’s favorite cause, to receive a portion of the proceeds from the 2011 Continental Tire Dream Giveaway. Camp Boggy Creek, a Hole In The Wall camp that was co-founded by actor and philanthropist Paul Newman and General H. Norman Schwarzkoph, is a year-round medical camp for children age seven through 16 who are suffering from chronic or life-threatening illnesses.
