Affiliated with the United Church of Christ, the Community Church of Mountain Lakes is comprised of members from a variety of denominational backgrounds.

The Community Church is governed by its congregation, whose members define and address its mission and to manage its affairs.  The Church council is comprised of members from each of the functional Boards and provide overall coordination.

The Community Church is a strong family church.  Over the years many young families have joined and contribute to the life of the Church through education, worship, fellowship and service.  It is, however, a congregation of all ages.  Throughout the year the emphasis is on involving all ages in life, work and ministry together.

The Church was founded in 1913 and continues to grow in strength and service.  All are welcome at The Community Church.  We invite you and your family to share your interests, needs, skills, and concerns with us.  We receive new members several times each year and welcome new friends every Sunday.

Raffle Benefits

Proceeds from the raffle will benefit ProStart and RAMEF’s Scholarship programs. The ProStart program is a high school culinary and hospitality management curriculum that also requires 400 hours of paid industry work experience in order to receive a ProStart National Certificate of Achievement. Students completing the ProStart program are qualified to enter the workforce in positions above entry level and are on a fast track to management careers. ProStart is endorsed by the Maryland State Department of Education and also prepares students for post secondary education at culinary schools and hospitality management programs. There are currently over 4,000 high school students in the program in Maryland.

The Marcia S Harris Legacy Fund, the Letitia B Carter Scholarship Fund and the Co-Branded Scholarship with the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation are also managed and awarded through RAMEF. So far in 2009 over $30,000 in scholarships were awarded to Maryland students and industry professionals.

In 1994, Cleveland insurance executive Stuart Muszynski and his wife Susan, a clinical psychologist, saw the link between violence in the media, acts of teenage meanness, and violent acts in high schools and our society and decided to do something about it.

Knowing teens can grasp abstract concepts that may impact them for decades, the Muszynskis created a program to build character and life skills for that group. Based on cognitive psychology, experiential seminars that have changed adults’ behavior, and medical data about the power of visualization and love, the couple created a multi-media, day-long seminar using lessons from history and current events.

The seminar was designed to help students understand the difference between being perpetrators, victims, bystanders or rescuers. The goal was to create a group of students who would choose to be rescuers and had been trained in the leadership skills needed to promote kindness and caring in their schools, families, workplaces and communities.

The first program was conducted for 110 eleventh graders at Berkshire High School outside of Cleveland in May 1994. The next fall, Berkshire’s principal Dave Beten told Stuart that the seminar had taken the “meanest class” he had had in 30 years and transformed them into the “nicest class”. When they returned in the fall, they were nicer to their teachers, nicer to each other, even nicer to their siblings. And when questioned, they all credited the Project Love seminar for helping them believe they could make a difference.

Out of that first seminar, the Muszynskis founded Project Love® Remember the Children Foundation, whose mission is to “Promote kindness, caring and mutual respect among, for and through our children.” Project Love’s programs have grown from a single seminar to five types of leadership training seminars, four to five annual community-wide events, an issues-based weekly TV show and other curricular tools. 102 schools actively participate in these programs. To date, Project Love has directly trained more than 43,000 teens who, in turn, have impacted thousands more of their peers to treat others with greater kindness, caring and respect.

At Project Love, the phrase ‘Be Kind’ is not a platitude. It’s the tactic we train teens to use to change the world.

Founded in 1937 by conductor Robert Whitney and Charles Farnsley, then Mayor of Louisville, the Louisville Orchestra has long been recognized as the cornerstone of the Louisville arts community.

A full-time, 71-member ensemble offering a wide variety of concert series to the community, including classical programs featuring world-renowned guest artists, lighter classical and pops performances, and education and family offerings, the Orchestra is also the resident performing group for the Louisville Ballet and the Kentucky Opera.

The Louisville Orchestra also performs concerts and provides educational programming throughout both Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
