Dominican University of California has launched a car raffle to raise money for a proposed 110,000 square foot outdoor athletic complex that will enable the University to compete in the Pacific West Conference of NCAA II beginning in fall 2009.

Kristie’s Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 2003 by Laurie Kotas. Her inspiration is her 7-year-old daughter Kristie who passed away on September 29th, 1985 from Leukemia. It was Kristie’s love of life and end of life experience that inspires Laurie to reach out to other families during this crisis.

Kristie was so full of life and loved dressing up, wild theme park rides, and spending time with her dog and family. When Kristie’s time was limited, Laurie took every opportunity to find ways to cherish each and every day. Days at theme parks, feeding the ducks and looking for rainbows are some of Laurie’s most treasured memories.

Laurie’s dream is to change the way we care for terminally ill children and have a very special place for children and their families to go at the end of a child’s life. A place where families can have privacy along with the medical expertise and support they need.

Mission

The mission of the Canyon Crest Academy Foundation is to partner with students, parents and staff to facilitate community involvement and provide financial support for Canyon Crest Academy educational programs and priorities.

A Brief History

Since 2004, when Canyon Crest Academy (CCA) opened its doors to 364 freshman students in portable buildings in a parking lot, the Canyon Crest Academy Foundation has been working to raise funds to support the extraordinary range of programs and exceptional quality of education that have become the hallmarks of CCA. These efforts have helped make CCA of one of San Diego’s top-ranked high schools.

The Canyon Crest Academy Foundation is a nonprofit parent volunteer organization dedicated to realizing CCA’s educational programs and priorities through financial, volunteer and community support. Our primary objective is fundraising. The Foundation raises the funds necessary to support the spending priorities determined by CCA’s principal and staff, mostly through parent contributions. We also collaborate with students, parents, staff and our local community to assist CCA with its volunteer needs.

Why A Foundation?

Although CCA receives funds from the State of California, these monies are insufficient to pay for the exemplary classroom instruction and numerous special programs that are the reason so many students choose to attend CCA. The gap between public funds and CCA’s actual needs seems to expand each year. The Foundation’s role is to raise funds to bridge that gap to support the expansive curriculum and enriching educational and athletic programs available to CCA students.

Where Does the Money Go?

The donations raised by the CCA Foundation fund arts, engineering, technology, the sciences and humanities, college and career counseling, and athletic programs. Every student at CCA benefits in some way from the generous donations made by CCA families to the Foundation.

A few examples of what Foundation donations have paid for include:

• books and materials for the media center
• classroom computers and software
• the world language lab
• coaching stipends and assistant coach fees
• sports uniforms and equipment
• guest teaching artists for Envision day classes and Conservatory
• construction expenses
• Challenge Day
  
• pool rental, sheet music, costumes
• lab equipment and supplies, and much, much more.

In short, the Foundation raises the money that helps make the difference between an ordinary high school experience and the exceptional educational opportunities available to all Canyon Crest Academy students.

The YWCA San Gabriel Valley (hereafter “YWCA SGV”) is a nonprofit organization affiliated with the YWCA USA and is tax-exempt under federal and state laws.  YWCA SGV is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting justice, freedom, and dignity for all.  YWCA SGV programs include services to victims of domestic violence (including counseling, legal aid, and a shelter), services to older adults (including meal programs and case management), and services to teens (including leadership and educational programs.)

The Jesse Bethel High School “Jaguar” Band from Vallejo, California rank with the finest bands in Northern California. They have gained an enviable reputation through the years as an outstanding band in Concert, Marching and Jazz programs, receiving consistent Honor and Superior  ratings in each of these idioms. They also have a very reputable percussion ensemble and colorguard unit. The community of Vallejo takes great pride in the bands’ accomplishments and continually acknowledges its members as ambassadors of the community.

The Jesse Bethel “Jaguar” Band has existed since the opening of the school in 1998 under the direction of Mr. Ken Smith and has risen to many new challenges. The Jaguar Band has accumulated hundreds of awards from parades, field shows and concert competitions. In addition, the Winter Guard and Drum Line programs have earned top honors at both regional and national competitions.

The Jaguar Band strive to learn about music and marching through hard work, dedication and the pursuit of quality performance. This outstanding, competitive performance group also provides many opportunities for its members to personally develop and strengthen themselves in areas including leadership, teamwork, interpersonal growth, goal setting, time management and self-discipline. A strong work ethic, commitment to the program and a positive approach to teamwork are the foundation of the Jaguar’s philosophy, which is: “Work hard, perform well, grow musically and have fun.”

These successes are the result of the dedication of the band members and the parent booster organization who oversees the activities of the band as well as providing support financially and through involvement with guidance from the band director. It is great fun to be a member, and it takes self-discipline and time for rehearsals, too. A lot of responsibility goes into being a member. But, if you love music, like working with your friends, and would like to become a member of one of the best (certainly the largest) organizations at Jesse Bethel High School then JOIN THE BAND! We hope the following information helps you understand what the marching band is all about.

The purpose of the Code is to help students develop habits of moral character. Each student is an important member of the St. Mary’s High School Family and must make the ethical and moral commitment to act honestly and to encourage other students to act in the same way.

This Code outlines the expectations of the St. Mary’s High School student and the consequences for violating those same expectations. The teacher will notify the Academic Dean of all MAJOR violations of the Academic Honor Code. The teacher will provide proof of the violation and the teacher will be informed of the appropriate consequence. The Academic Dean will notify the parent/guardian of the situation and meet with the parent/guardian.
