The Northeast Classic Car Museum is an educational facility that collects, preserves, interprets and exhibits vehicles related to the evolution of transportation, with particular emphasis on the role of the automobile and its impact on American Culture.

The Northeast Classic Car Museum is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, chartered by the New York State Department of Education. The Museum is funded by the generous private donors, fund-raising efforts, and by admissions and gift shop sales. Governed by a 20+ member Board of Trustees, the Museum relies on 3 paid staff members and nearly 100 volunteers for operations.

The Museum opened on Memorial Day weekend 1997 with one building and just over 50 vehicles on display. Currently, over 100 vehicles are on display in 3 connected buildings. Informative videos, period fashions, and more enhance the Museum experience. In May of 2009, the Museum plans to open another nearly 30,000 square feet of exhibit space.

Saint Bernard Catholic Church started in 1849 when Father Joseph Kundeck of Jasper, IN visited Rockport and found four Catholic families. By 1850, Catholic families numbered 12 and a plot of ground on 6th and Elm Streets was donated by General Williamson. On June 6, 1850, the laying of a corner stone marked the start of the first small brick church facing 6th Street. A corner stone for a new brick church was laid on May 18, 1875 and was dedicated on June 25, 1876. Disaster struck the parish on News Year’s morning in 1917, when a destructive fire consumed the interior of the church. A new building which would house a kitchen, gym-auditorium, and two classrooms was ready for occupancy by 105 students and three teachers in the fall of 1949. In the fall of 1961, under the direction of Father Michael O.J.Wolf, a new eight-classroom addition welcomed 202 students with five teachers.Since that time the parish has continued a gradual growth in size and members, while growing greatly in grace and wisdom under the guidance of God’s Holy Spirit.

A Rotary Club in Waukegan had first been discussed by Garfield A. Bowden, W.I. Lyon and a group of friends as they hiked along the Dead River. Bowden had seen and admired the civic work of a Rotary Club in Manikato, MN and thought their conservation efforts would interest Lyon, a well known real estate professional and internationally known ornithologist. On November 15, 1916, a week after an organization meeting, the charter was presented to the club at the Hotel Washburn on Water Street. The presentation was made by Herbert Angster, Lake Bluff resident and member of the Chicago Rotary Club. Since 1967, the Rotary Club of Waukegan has been involved in youth exchange activities, hosting students from Argentina, Austria, Germany, Australia, Japan, Brazil, Equador, Finland, and India. Other youth activities have included recognition luncheons honoring academic and athletic achievers from area high schools.
